WHAT IS COMMUNITY OF SCIENCE?

Community of Science, Inc. (COS) is a network of researchers and research organizations on the World Wide Web. Its mission is to help researchers locate funding, collaborate with colleagues and promote their research. COS brings together the world's most prominent scientists and researchers at more than 1,600 universities, corporations and government agencies worldwide. COS provides tools and services that enable these professionals to communicate, exchange information and find the people and technologies that are important to their work. COS was founded in 1988 by Johns Hopkins University and is currently a privately held company.

COS Expertise

COS Expertise is an online database containing more than 480,000 first-person profiles of researchers from over 1300 institutions worldwide. The profiles in COS Expertise include contact information, positions held, publications, patents, funding received, and a first-person narrative describing current research activities and expertise. COS Expertise profiles also include direct links to e-mail, a personal home page, an online CV, patent abstracts (and full-text where available), publication abstracts, and available research grants.

Creating your own profile takes only a little of your time and gives you a highly visible vehicle to promote your experience and your research. You can also use COS Expertise to identify prospective collaborators, license new technologies, leverage R&D efforts, perform due diligence, and stay informed about the constantly changing world of basic science and scholarly research.

COS Funding Opportunities

COS Funding Opportunities is the largest and most comprehensive research funding database on the Web. It is an online database, which is updated daily and contains more than 23,000 records, representing more than 400,000 funding opportunities, worth over $33 billion in potential award dollars.

Individual researchers and research administrators rely on COS Funding Opportunities to identify funding information as it relates to research, collaborative activities, travel, curriculum development, conferences, fellowships, post-doctoral positions, equipment acquisition, operating and capital expenses, and more.

COS Funding Alert

COS Funding Alert is a personalized electronic notification service of funding information. COS Funding Alert subscribers receive a weekly e-mail with a customized list of funding opportunities based on previously specified criteria. The funding information provided by COS is drawn from regularly-updated information in the COS Funding Opportunities database. Each funding opportunity listed in COS Funding Alert contains information such as title, sponsor, deadline and amount, while also providing a link to more detailed information.
